Question about Zyxel NWA50AX

I would like to expand my existing network with this AccesPoint or even replace it if the signal strength is sufficient. The existing router is on the ground floor, but the AP would go in the basement. There is now a LAN connection between the ground floor and the first floor. My questions: 1. can I a) expand or b) replace my existing network with this AP without any problems? Does the orientation of the device play a role in terms of signal strength? Will I have a good signal upstairs if I hang the device on the ceiling downstairs? Or would it be better to hang it on the wall?

Helpful answer

I had similar questions. My AP is in the cleaning cupboard on the ground floor, on the top shelf, pretty much in the middle of the house (horizontally and vertically). I have tried every conceivable position and orientation, on the cupboard ceiling, on the shelf, on the side walls on the left, right and back, etc.. My conclusion, based on various measurements (near and far): it doesn't matter at all where and how the AP lies, stands or hangs exactly in this compartment. Much more important was the realisation that the AP itself is massively better than the old one (an Ubiquiti UniFi AP NanoHD)!

Hello Martierich
I have my router in the basement of a concrete house. There are also Lan connections to the higher floors. With one AP on each of the higher floors, the wifi connection works as desired. I have my APs on the table and one in the wall cupboard, without suspension. So far I am satisfied.

Hello Martierich

1. both are possible.

2. the orientation always plays a role. Every wall degrades the signal somewhat.

It's hard to say if it's enough because you don't know how many m² etc.. However, I am very satisfied. The AP is very small, good signal strength and, in my opinion, quick to set up (Nebula).
