I would like to equip the NAS with an SSD - but I'm not sure which one is suitable?

You can install 1 or 2 2.5" SATA SSDs, but you may need an adapter to fix it in.
Among the brands, I'd go for Samsung Evo (or QVO) 870. Crucial is also good.
