I would like the display to light up permanently. Will it damage the battery if I connect the alarm clock permanently to the mains adapter?

I have always connected the USB cable to the stereo system. Unfortunately, the stereo does not supply any power to the USB when it is switched off, so that is no help to you. But being permanently energised is certainly not good for the battery.
