I have a slightly older laptop from HP (Pavilion dv7-7135sz) with USB 2.0 port. The computer originally had Win7 installed, now Win 10. Could it be that the adapter is not working correctly on the hardware side and the laptop does not recognise the stick as a WLAN receiver?
I would try this WLAN Nano Stick, it is much smaller and many people have given the product positive reviews, at least it would look much more elegant.

If the home network is relatively weak, then I would also think about setting up a WiFi mesh solution at home, this will definitely also give you better WiFi coverage in your own home. For example, the Xiaomi AX3000 system would be such a solution, which doesn't cost much but would be very well equipped.
Hi Clife,
I only used this thing for a short time on an old HP, which I also updated to win10. Basically it worked, but the signal was so weak that I looked for another solution: a WLAN amplifier and a splitter, so that the PC now connects to the web via a LAN cable and the stick has not been used since then.
