Question about Teufel Ultima 40 Aktiv
I got the Ultima 40 Active + effect rear speakers. With an additional subwoofer this makes a 5.1 system. My starting position is now like this: PC via HDMI to TV and this in turn via HDMI (eARC) to the speakers. When I watch Netflix on the TV, I have activated Dolby Digital 5.1 as far as I can see. When I watch a film or play a game on the PC, I can only select 2.0 (the speakers try to display the rest from stereo to surround -> of course absolutely best ....). Since I can't manage to switch the output from the PC to the TV to 5.1 with any variant, I also tried to connect the speakers directly from the PC (which is not nice, because you have to switch over and over again). Lo and behold, this doesn't work either.... the speakers are still recognised by the PC as a 2.0 variant. no matter where I plug them in (HDMI, optical, USB...) Is it now seriously the case that the speakers with the effect in kombitnation cannot be used on a PC as a surround system?! If this is the case. Super job Teufel... never again and the resale can begin... Yes the speakers are up to date. Yes the TV too Yes, I used an arc-compatible hdmi cable. Tested with 2 high end PC's. Software DTS, Dolby acces, Sonic Sound Software on PC were all tried -> does not recognise HomeCinema, only 2.0
What does iOS have to do with Dolby Digital 5.1?
After 13 hours of testing and analysis, here's the conclusion:
The speakers are a 2.0 system, with the effect speakers + subwoofer it is still only a 2.0 system, the built-in receiver simply has this as the EDID (completely nonsensical).
Why do you sell the effect speakers at all? Well...
When a 5.1 Dolby digital signal arrives. The speakers can use it optimally. However, since the speakers are considered a 2.0 system and are also recognised as such by every system due to the EDID, nothing other than 2.0 can be set with more intelligent systems such as PCs that carry out the EDID check.
Via Netflix or PS5 which can output a 5.1 with the source without EDID check, it works. But e.g. the PS5 still does not recognise a surround device.
Best solutions:
- PC: Teufel creates an audio driver for the loudspeakers (no there is not)
- Teufel installs a receiver with EDID recognition 5.1 (no it doesn't)
- PC: manual tricking of the EDID check (only for professionals)
- Interconnecting a device that has EDID 5.1 Dolby digital (tomorrow I'll try it with an HDMI 2.0 audio extractor) The extractor is connected between the PC and the TV. Basically, the PC should then recognise the extractor as a "display device" and enable 5.1 output (theoretically). Let's see.
Purchase recommendation:
If the system is not only used on the tv for netflix. Or no additional 5.1 capable receiver is used (which would be really d*****) I would not recommend the speakers to anyone in any case with effect!!!!!!

Maybe teufel works only with Apple under IOS but not compatible with Windows PC.
