I bought this device 2 days ago. The packaging says TP-Link AC1200 which does not match the product name from Digtec. I use the device in range extender mode and have the problem that it does not recognise the 5 GHz network. The 2.4 GHz network works fine. Among other things, I use the TP-Link RE550 repeater, which recognises the 5 GHz network without problems and can also use it. Network specifications 2.4 GHz: Wlan mode: 802.11g/n mixed Channel: Auto, channel 6 Channel width: Auto, 20 MHz Security: WPA2 Personal Network specifications 5 GHz: Wlan mode: 802.11a/n/ac mixed Channel: Auto, channel 124 Channel width: Auto, 20/40/80 MHz Security: WPA2 Personal General: WLAN Channel Optimisation: Enabled SSID are set the same for both networks, as is the password. Does anyone know where the cause is / what else could be tried to fix the problem?
Had similar experiences in access point mode (also both networks with the same SSID, password and disabled DHCP service as this is managed by the main router).
To rule out problems, I temporarily switched off the 2.4GHz network to check whether my devices would connect to the 5GHz network at all. They did, but the signal was much weaker than in the 2.4GHz range. This regularly led to disconnections or very long loading times. I finally deactivated the 5GHz range completely. Since then, everything has been very stable.
Originally I wanted to use this AP for multi-SSID (I have several VLAN in the network). According to the specification, the TL-WA1201 should be able to handle multi-SSID with IEEE 802.1q. However, this seems to be implemented with a TP Link "own" standard. With my Ubiquity EdgeRouter I could never establish stable connections with the corresponding VLAN tags. First connection worked, then I could send a few pings successfully, then again not. At some point I gave up in frustration.
Now I only use the device as a single AccessPoint on a VLAN and only with 2.4GHz. It has been running very stably and without problems for many months now. The signal reaches all corners of the house.
In the meantime, I have found out how to work around the problem. If the 5 GHz network is in channels 36 to 64, the repeater can connect and use this network without any problems. However, I find it a bit strange that the repeater cannot connect to 5 GHz networks outside these channels, as the router automatically selects the channel by default.
Sorry, I can't answer this question, I'm not that deep in the technology. But for me, the device recognises both the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz from the start.
