Have you ever tried to activate Windows by telephone (on a Microsoft telephone computer)? This has helped me many times.
It takes about 5 minutes. (you are given a combination of numbers and letters, which you enter when prompted, and at the end you receive a new combination of numbers and letters that you enter on the computer, and that's it).
