Question about Honeywell Dc313s
How does this thing actually work? You can ring the bell at the front door and you can hear it upstairs in the flat? If I understand correctly, without an intercom function?

That's exactly how it is. The thing is a completely normal radio door chime. You press the button and the receiver then rings in the desired tone. I find it very practical that you can not only set the ring tones, but also a flashing light on the receiver.
