How can I pull the cable out again? The snap mechanism doesn't seem to release, I'm afraid that if I pull too hard I'll damage the port.
As described below. If necessary, use a screwdriver (instead of your thumb) to press on the snap mechanism at the very front of the socket and pull on the cable/plug with your other hand. This usually also helps if the latch is broken off.
Never force it!
Sometimes the clip is difficult to release. Press on it, push the cable and then remove it. If the handle of the clip is broken and only the clipped part exists, it is more difficult, you must try to uninsert the clip. Forcing will destroy the cable and possibly the port itself.
OK, don't pull. This has only happened to me a few times, perhaps because the RJ45 head is slightly wider than normal. After trying without success, I put the mechanism back in place, i.e. in the basic position, then pressed again, but using my thumb to occupy as much of the mechanism as possible, sometimes with my fingertip almost inside the RJ45 socket.I didn't always feel the click, but it was enough to remove it without resistance.
I was able to plug and unplug the cable from various devices without any problems. It may help to press the snap mech, move the plug slightly back and forth and pull it at the same time.
