Apple Mac Mini - Late 2020
M1, 8 GB, 256 GB, M1
Hi all, I'm looking to order a Mac Mini with M1 and I'm extremely struggling with the size of RAM. I currently have a 2019 iMac with 40GB of ram, which is 2667MHz. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any info anywhere regarding the speed of the RAM in the M1 Mac Mini. I use the Mac mainly for normal office work. Now and then some picture or video editing with iMovie, nothing else special. Connected to a 43 inch monitor. Now the question: Would I feel a huge difference in a M1 Mac Mini, between 8 and 16GB? is the 8GB slow? I don't know whether 8 or 16 can't decide. Thanks everyone for the help ;-)
The problem with the M1 and all Apple chips, RAM is in the chip, so you can never upgrade the new Apple computers. My advice is to buy the maximum RAM size, so 16GB, 8GB is okay for now but in the future it won't be enough. Basic things run safely, but it would be a pity if more problems occur because of too little RAM. and never be able to expand the RAM afterwards, that would be an absolute no-go for me.
I bought the MacMini 8GB for my music studio (amateur, not professional).
I use it almost exclusively for Logic and it works tiptop, very rarely there are small jerks.
Should be enough for simple image editing (if it's not 3D rendering :D ).
Hello
I previously had an iMac 24 inch early 2009, upgraded over time to 8GB Ram and 1TB SSD. Due to home office the last two years the Citrix software did not work with the OS and I decided to buy a Mac Mini. I expanded the internal 256GB SSD with a 2TB Samsung T5 external SSD. I use a 32" iiyama screen with 3840x2160px. Normal office work, O365, photo editing with Affinity, slide presentations with FotoMagico and that it "slides" to put it simply. I have no idea what the speed of the 8GB ram is or r/w of the internal as well as external SSD, but the way I use my Mac Mini I don't think it matters. You can also upgrade a Mac Mini to the point of no return, which is then also noticeable in terms of price, but I don't think it's necessary for "normal office work".
