Ubiquiti UniFi AP-AC-M MESH
867 Mbit/s
Hello Until now I had 1x Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC-LR and 1x Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC-PRO both connected to my network via LAN (flat 150 m2). Well, the throughput was OK and the coverage was also OK. I now thought about whether it might make sense to take away the AC-LR and use 1-2 AP-AC-M instead in order to get better coverage, i.e. more speed, or is there no point at all?
No, that won't do you much good. Unless the two APs you already have are not optimally placed. But you can also reposition the LR and integrate it as a mesh. The cable is not mandatory. This way you can test the effect without any costs.
The AP-AC-M will not help you in terms of performance. You can connect them directly via LAN, but your network will not be faster. The transmission rates of the devices are:
AP AC-PRO:
5 GHz: 1300 Mbit/s
2.4 GHz: 450 Mbit/s
AP AC-LR:
5 GHz: 866 Mbit/s
2.4 GHz: 300 Mbit/s
AP-AC-M Mesh:
5 GHz: 867 Mbit/s
2.4 GHz: 300 Mbit/s
Currently, your AP AC-PRO is the AP with the highest data throughput. I would at least replace the AP AC-LR with an AP AC-PRO. Then you will have a very good data throughput of up to 1300 Mbps at least in the 5 GHz range.
But if you want to increase your performance, you have to switch to higher-quality Ubiquiti products such as
- UniFi AP-AC-HD (1733 Mbps or 800 Mbps)
- UniFi UAP-AC-SHD (1733 Mbps or 800 Mbps)
However, these devices only make sense if you transfer large amounts of data via WLAN. For internet surfing, an AP AC-PRO is sufficient in my view.
