If the seal is poor then the room cools slower, the warm air comes back in quickly and the temperature rises quickly after switching off. Styrofoam panels are much better than the inferior window seals to air conditioners you can buy. They need to be slightly wider than the width of the window and preferably thick enough to seal the space between the shutter and the window frame. You can buy them at a DIY store or order them online.

First lower the roller shutter. Cut out an opening for the tube. Then place one polystyrene board on top of the other. The top panel has to be sawn to the right height.
