The recordings from the ext. HDD/SSD can be played back with (almost?) every media player (better !).

I have never used it myself, but the technical descriptions tell the story:

SUPPORTED FORMATS & CODECSVideo Codecs : MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, VC-1
Video formats : M4V, MP4, MKV, MOV, MPG, TS, TS4, XVID, M2TS, AVI, ASF
Image formats : BMP, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF
Audio formats : AAC, MP3, FLAC, MP2, OGG, DDAC3, AIFF

Accordingly, there is a possibility that this could work with another media player.
