Question about Minisforum MS-01-S1390
Hello, Is it noisy for office use and streaming? Does it heat up a lot in the long term? For the SPF+ ports, do you need to buy a 10GB transceiver to have a 10GB internet connection? Thank you for your reply.

The thing is excellent. I now have 2 of them, one acts as a router between my provider (Init7) and my LAN. I use the second one as a workstation.
Now it depends on what kind of Internet connection you have and how you want to distribute it at home. If you have a router from your supplier that offers a 10gbps port, you need to check whether it is sfp+ or 10gbaseT (copper, Ca6 or something like that). If it is sfp+ and you want to connect your computer directly to the router, it is best to use a DAC cable.
But if you want to have a switch between your router from the supplier and your home devices, you have to look for a suitable switch. I bought one myself, but unfortunately it's not available at Galaxus. Google for "NICGIGA 8 Port 2.5G Ethernet Switch + 10G SFP". Very cheap and has 2x sfp+ and 8* 2.5gbps.
My setup:
- MS-01-1 with Connectx LX4 SFP28 PCI card, with an SFP28 module on the glass box on the wall. An additional fan should be installed on the MS-01, as the card still needs some air.
- MS-01-1 -> NCGIGA switch with SFP+ DAC cable (SFP+ to SFP+).
- NCGIGA Switch 1 Port 2 SFP+ to NCGIGA Switch 2Port 1 SFP+ with 2 SFP+ transceivers, because I want to use the copper house cabling. So transceiver, Cat 6 cable to wall socket... in the other room wall socket, Cat 6 cable - transceiver - NC Giga Switch 2.
- NCGIGA Switch 2 Port 2 SFP+ with DAC cable to NCGIGA Switch 3 Port 1 SFP+
- NCGIGA Switch 3 Port 2 SFP+ with DAC cable to MS-01-2 SFP+ Port 1.
I am therefore connected from my workstation computer to the MS-01-1 via 3 switches (router). And I get the following throughputs with Oakla without any problems:
Server: joelmueller.ch
ISP: Init7
Idle latency: 1.57 ms (jitter: 0.20ms, low: 1.48ms, high: 1.83ms)
Download: 9194.96 Mbps (data used: 9.9 GB)
2.03 ms (jitter: 3.33ms, low: 1.31ms, high: 214.06ms)
Upload: 9290.17 Mbps (data used: 16.8 GB)
4.64 ms (jitter: 1.19ms, low: 1.02ms, high: 22.86ms)
Quite acceptable.
On the MS-01-01, which also acts as my router, I can get a connection via the Connect-X card with SFP28:
Server: senseLAN GmbH - Duedingen (id: 68232)
ISP: Init7
Idle Latency: 1.52 ms (jitter: 0.11ms, low: 1.24ms, high: 1.59ms)
Download: 23516.07 Mbps (data used: 21.1 GB)
1.64 ms (jitter: 0.48ms, low: 1.19ms, high: 4.23ms)
Upload: 22292.00 Mbps (data used: 24.3 GB)
1.89 ms (jitter: 0.59ms, low: 1.12ms, high: 5.12ms)
Both the MS-01 and the supplier Init7 are spectacularly good. You have to familiarise yourself with them, but it's fun.
As for the SFP+ transceivers, I have tried a few. The best was actually one of the cheaper ones, the TP-Link TL-SM5310-T (here from Galaxus).
I also bought both MS-01s here, with a 13900h processor and in the 64GB version. Probably overkill for the router, but I have Proxmox on it and have virtualised a few things on it. Super device, really.

Also, how come Digitec sells a 64GB ram version, when on the official website there's only a 32GB ram version?
