Hello, I bought the DS224+ with 2 12TO disks. To ensure my data, I'm going to make a copy on an external hard drive (I think it's the best solution). Do you have a preferred hard drive for this type of situation? I don't necessarily want to store everything on the same hard drive. Thanks in advance for your help! Have a nice day!
Hello, if you have a "basic" use of your NAS you have probably configured it in Synology Hybrid Raid (SHR). There is fault tolerance on a disk with this type of RAID, which is unique to Synology, so that already gives you some security. The "best" solution would be to set up 2 mirrored NASes (one NAS is used to back up the other, automatically), but if you want to duplicate your data on an external hard drive, in theory any one could do.
Personally, as a photographer I have an automatic backup of my NAS on Amazon Glacier, it costs next to nothing and in the event of a total disaster I know it's always possible to recover my data. But perhaps you don't want to use the cloud.
