1. can you remove the interior lighting yourself? I would replace the lamp with a more powerful LED.
2. if I set 30min with the plus button, does it beep 30 times until I have set the value 30? I am worried that this button operation will annoy me with every input.

1. think not. The lighting is behind a "grille" which is a fixed part of the housing. I.e. you would have to take the device apart a lot to get to it. 2.
2 In principle, yes (it beeps with every single keystroke). However, you can also just keep the button pressed, so you get 30 minutes with a single beep. 
Incidentally, the time is set in 10-second increments, not in minute increments.

If you hold down the start&cancel buttons at the same time it turns the beeper off completely.
