Question about Onkyo Tx-Nr686

Hello, I have a basic question about the connection for which I can't find an answer. So far, I have connected all the players (Playstation, Apple TV, Swisscom Box, Sonos, etc.) to the previous receiver and then connected a cable to the TV via HDMI Out. So only the cable from the receiver was connected to the TV. Since I have now upgraded to a current QLED TV and this Onkyo receiver, I now also have the option of connecting all video signals (PlayStation, TV boxes) directly to the TV and then sending the audio signal to the receiver via ARC. The control centre is thus shifted from the receiver to the TV. This is an advantage for apps like Netflix, Hatto, etc. that also run on the TV, as it no longer requires a setup box. But what is the technically better solution for the PlayStation? Does it affect picture/sound if you choose one of the two options? The Samsung OLED automatically switches to gaming mode when the PlayStation is connected directly to the TV, which I take as an advantage. Are there any reasons for connecting it to the receiver, e.g. better sound? Many thanks

Both have their advantages and disadvantages, unfortunately.

The automatic game mode will most likely not work if the signal first goes via the receiver and then to the TV. On the other hand (as already mentioned) not every audio signal is supported if you run it via the TV with ARC, whereas this would not be a problem with a PS -> receiver -> TV connection.

In the end, you have to decide for yourself what is more important to you. Auto-gamemode or uncompressed audio. In any case, the receiver has no influence on the picture quality, as it also supports HDR10.

One disadvantage would certainly be that ARC does not support all audio formats.
As far as I know, only 5.1 and no
Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and no DTS-HD
