Hello everyone. I am now also streaming films with this Apple TV box on my "slightly older" Panasonic TV. In films where there are fast lights, such as explosions, muzzle flashes etc., the TV screen often darkens for 1-2 seconds. Do any of you have an explanation? Best regards, Bernhard
Here are some possible explanations and suggested solutions:
Check HDMI cable: Make sure that the HDMI cable connecting the Apple TV Box to your Panasonic TV is in good condition. A damaged cable can lead to signal loss.
Screen refresh rate: Check the settings on your Panasonic TV and make sure that the screen refresh rate is set correctly. Some TVs offer different modes with different refresh rates.
HDR settings: If your TV and the content support HDR (High Dynamic Range), check the HDR settings on the Apple TV Box. Sometimes HDR compatibility issues can lead to unexpected screen changes.
Software updates: Check that both your Panasonic TV and Apple TV Box have the latest firmware or software updates installed. Updated software may resolve known issues.
Cables and connections: Ensure that all cables are firmly and correctly connected. If necessary, try other HDMI connections on your TV.
Picture enhancement functions: Temporarily disable any picture enhancement features on your TV, such as noise reduction or motion smoothing, to see if this solves the problem.
Contact support: If the problem persists, it may be advisable to contact Panasonic or Apple technical support. They can provide specific information about your model and possible solutions.
It is important to note that different TV models and brands may have different settings and functions. Therefore, these suggestions are general in nature and it may be necessary to refer to your Panasonic TV user manual or contact support directly for specific assistance.
Good evening Bernhard,
The following could be the problem, as you mentioned the TV is already older; The information from the median is too much and the TV or the HDMI cable cannot keep up with the signal and therefore the rest is "darkened" when fast lights etc. occur, this may be triggered by a high bit rate.
You can test the following to quickly find out where the source of the problem is:
Simply connect the HDMI cable to another HDMI connection to rule out directly that one port is not simply defective or similar.
- If this has already led to an improvement, then you know that it is the port. If not, continue->
Connect your Apple TV including the same HDMI cable that is connected to the TV to your computer monitor and run the same media. If the problem does not come along and does not occur, you know that it is due to the Panasonic TV (either because it is simply "old" or because the HDMI connection has a version that is too low or possibly one of the many picture settings, e.g. for HDR or similar or something like motion smoothing etc.).
If the problem has come along, then you don't know it's not your TV, but then it's either the HDMI cable or the Apple TV.
If possible, replace the HDMI cable - e.g. use the one you use for the PC - if the problem then no longer occurs, the HDMI cable was the problem (possibly too low version), but if the problem still occurs, it is a setting in the Apple TV (a picture setting or similar).
If you have been able to narrow down the problem so far, then you "only" need to go through the settings and see what is causing the dimming. It may also be a setting that prevents it from being "too bright". This may be comparable to the sound settings for watching films at night, where the highs and lows are brought to the same level so that everything is not too loud.
I hope this has helped you to narrow down the problem or at least to exclude different sources.
