Question about MikroTik VPN Router CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS

Are you familiar with networking basics, do you like to spend a few hours or days learning RouterOS and don't mind having to do a lot of manual work for all kinds of details? Then you'll get a router that delivers unbeatable performance and functionality in this price range.

If you are looking for something that is easy to use, then a Mikrotik router is not the right choice.

Microtics all have the same OS internally, RouterOS (for switches you will find the stripped down SwitchOS that many devices, even very small ones, can dual boot). RouterOS allows you to configure everything, either via the web interfaces, or via a terminal and command lines. For normal use cases, it's not too complex to get the thing to work. For example, init7 has configs that you can just load and everything is ready for you. The rest is certainly not as nicely presented as Ubiquiti and if you want to do more complex things it can take a bit more time. The statement about hours and days is definitely an exaggeration.
In other words, the nice thing is that you can configure everything, the negative thing is that you can configure everything.
I have a predecessor in use for years without problems, with a few more complex configurations added over the years, without being an absolute expert in the field or having to spend hours configuring the router. I'll be switching to this one as soon as it's available and the config is quick and easy within a few minutes, which is great value with Mikrotik.
