For a few weeks now, my HP Pavilion has been suddenly shutting down at very irregular intervals, everything goes dark and then it starts up again. What was not secured is gone. The way you describe it, it must almost be the power supply. I had exactly the same behaviour on an industrial PC and it was the power supply unit that suddenly switched off. There may be a loose contact or a component fault. To rule out the possibility, is the PC plugged into a power strip or directly into a socket? Sometimes power strips have problems with the contacts if they are frequently plugged in and unplugged.
