Does the On/Off switch turn off the whole unit or only the amplification of the WLAN signal? My question is actually: Can I use the device to connect only one device via LAN or does it still have to transmit a (boosted) WLAN signal? And if that is not possible, are there devices that receive WLAN but do not necessarily amplify it (reverse access point)?
The switch turns the whole device off. Netgear has designed the WN3000RP-200PES as a repeater to pick up a WLAN signal from the router, e.g. Fritzbox or Swisscom Internetbox, and forward it amplified to extend the range of the WLAN. In this mode, the data rate is only 50% when receiving via the WN3000RP-200PES compared to direct reception from the router.
The unit can also be used as a LAN bridge. In this mode, the WLAN signal is received from the router, e.g. Fritzbox or Swisscom Internetbox, and the Ethernet signal is emitted at the LAN interface so that a non-WLAN-capable device can be connected to the home network.
For the first question; the whole device, for the second; ask Google 😀
