Does condensation not have to be drained off during operation? In the description I only see the instruction for complete drainage if the unit is not used for a longer period of time.

The drain function is only required when the appliance is used as a dehumidifier or as a heater; the water requires draining in these modes only. When the appliance is used as an air conditioner the moisture is not collected, rather, it is sent outside as hot moist air via the large air tunnel/pipe.
