Does anyone know if the camera can also be operated without a network connection or does anyone know of an alternative product? Thanks in advance.

The camera can also be operated without a network connection (RJ45) via WLAN only.
However, for the initial setup it is recommended to connect the camera via network RJ45 and then switch to WLAN...
