Do I need the "Topo Switzerland Pro" map to use this device or is the pre-installed map material sufficient "for normal use"?
The Garmin Topo Switzerland is good, but far too expensive. You can find various OSM maps on the net, and they are usually better than the pre-installed Garmin maps.

I have a device with Topo25 and the Touch 35 with the base map. As long as you are on paths and roads, the basic map is sufficient. Trampling paths and single tracks are not on it, but gravel paths usually are. But of course no contour lines.
