Hi Viola: yes, you can put detergent in it. But to be honest, the "dripping out" doesn't work for me. Too little comes out or (if I pull the tube out completely (it's probably for emptying - but nowhere described - it all comes out at once). However, I like the whole thing VERY much in spite of this! I leave the canister out and simply pour a mixture of cleaning solution from a cup in front of the mop from time to time so that they are moist again. It works so perfectly: as soon as there is crumbs/dirt, the dirt detector recognises it and starts SUCTION! Brilliant! I love it! However, I don't know what it's like on mirror-smooth surfaces: it might leave streaks because it wipes crisp and smooth.
