Can the camera also be used on a surface without WLAN? Or can a mobile phone hotspot be used to set it up?
### Mobile phone hotspot as an alternative
- It is possible to use a mobile phone hotspot to set up and operate the camera as long as it provides a stable 2.4 GHz WLAN connection. This makes it possible to use the camera in areas without a fixed WLAN connection.
Hello,
In answer to your question, this type of product does require an internet connection. The advantage of this camera is that it transmits real-time surveillance of a location.
So, all the switching on and controls are done via a WiFi network and an application installed on a phone or tablet.
It's a really high-performance, well-built product. What's more, it's very easy to set up.
But if you don't have an internet connection, there are still Bluetooth devices available.
Or, if you have a power supply on site, and a 4 or 5 G signal, you can set up a GSM router for your Wifi. Digitec offers a wide choice.
This system works using a GSM card. And all for a modest annual fee.
I hope I've answered your question.
Sincerely, Gilles
Wi-Fi and the Tapo mobile phone app are essential for setting up the cam. (a free account is required) The cam must then be configured via the Tapo app in the WiFi. (SD card must be inserted, which is then reformatted, and all data (images, film events, etc.) are then stored on this card. If the cam is set up outside a Wi-Fi network, the cam will record, but of course it will not be able to send alarms, pictures or live videos (I'm not sure if this is possible using your mobile as a hotspot, as it is already registered in your Wi-Fi network in the Tapo app), so if you want to know what the cam has recorded, you have to bring it back into Wi-Fi reception range. I'm not sure whether the recorded data on the SD card can be read out on the PC, they have their own file format...
Should also work. It's only about the fact that it can establish a connection
You can use a wifi repeater that you connect as close as possible to the outdoor camera. I installed two cameras several metres from the router. They take the connection well.

The Tapo C425 KIT camera from TP-Link requires a Wi-Fi connection to work properly and to use all its functions, including transmitting videos and receiving notifications.
### WLAN requirement
- The camera must be connected to the Internet via a Wi-Fi connection (IEEE 802.11b/g/n, 2.4 GHz) to ensure full functionality.
### Mobile phone hotspot as an alternative
- It is possible to use a mobile phone hotspot to set up and operate the camera as long as it provides a stable 2.4 GHz WLAN connection. This makes it possible to use the camera in areas without a fixed WLAN connection.
However, it should be noted that a stable and reliable Internet connection is required to make optimum use of all the camera's functions.
