Question about Synology DS1821+
Can non-Synology SSDs also be installed in the DS1821 (e.g. Samsung 870 Evo)? And if so, does the usual warning message simply appear in the DSM? And does this actually apply to all disc stations that I can install SSDs from Samsung or WD? E.g. in the Synology DS2422+?

Yes you can, I put 20tb of segate which was not in the compatibility list

You can always install it - Synology just doesn't want to "support" it. To minimise unwanted warning messages, the small script from 007revad can help:

This allows you to use any M.2 SSD as a volume, not just as a cache. The only thing that does not work is an M.2 volume as the first and/or only volume: "The DSM operating system cannot be installed on M.2 SSDs. For a successful DSM installation, your Synology NAS must have at least one drive that is not an M.2 SSD." (see https://kb.synology.com/de-de... )

I've just installed a WD Red SN700 SSD WD Red SN700 (500 GB, M.2 2280) not mentioned on the list of compatible products, but it works perfectly well and is much cheaper than the Synology product on offer.
Yes you can, but they can only be used as a cache and not as a volume. If you want to use M.2 ssds as a volume you have to buy Synology or customise the system.
