Helpful answer

16GB is also possible, although not officially compatible. I'm not sure if it works with all 8GB sticks. In my case I have two of them installed and it works: Crucial CT102464BF160B (1x, 8GB, DDR3L-1600, SODIMM 204)

The QNAP TS-453A allows a maximum of 8 GB RAM in two memory slots.
The 4 GB version contains 2 x 2 GB RAM, the 8 GB version contains 2 x 4 GB RAM.
To increase the RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB, the 2 x 2 GB RAM must be removed and replaced with 2 x 4 GB.

It is easy to open the case, slide away the casing, remove the old RAM bars and insert new ones.
I haven't done it on this QNAP model yet, but without

any problems on other similar QNAP models TS-459 and TS-469.
