Can I connect 4 Ohms speakers to a 6 / 6-8 Ohms receiver?
Hello, No, I would not connect 4 Ohm speakers directly to this output.
As a test, I have connected a resistor in series with another system, but it must have the power of approx. 20W (available at Conrad, 3.3 Ohm 10W for 3.-/pc., ask for advice) and it could get very hot (depending on the volume, enough cooling).
For the impedance (frequency-dependent resistance) to be approx. 6Ohm, the resistor would have to be >2 Ohm (4+2=6).
Thus, the amplifier should not get too hot and the "old" speakers can continue to do their job.
For little money, this attempt would be worthwhile, so test it out.
All without guarantee. Alternative: new speakers. Have fun.
I wouldn't recommend it at all, otherwise the manufacturer H+K would have specified it that way. LS with 4 Ohm impedance draw twice the current (Ampere) from the power amplifier, these could be damaged and destroyed.
