Anybody tried using CAT7 with this SFP module from Ubiquiti? I use Cat 5e and Cat 7 within my network, but on the main website it says it only supports Cat 6a. Any experiences with different cable types?

Helpful answer

I've also tested with category 7 and 8 cables without any problems.
I haven't tested whether there's a change in stability and speed, but in any case I've had no problems with compatibility.

Cat 6a describes the quality/properties of the electrical pins and which category they correspond to. If you use CAT 7 cables, this only means that the cables are better than the transceiver itself. If you use a Cat. 5e, this means that the properties of the cable are slightly worse than those of the SFP. So, if you use Cat7 (or higher) you will never have problems. Cat 5e and Cat6 were specified for 1Gb/s. From Cat6a and upwards the specifications are for 10Gb/s. If you only have short distances, you will probably be fine with the 5e cables. However, if you are building 10G links, then a 6a cable or your Cat.7 would be recommended. Does that help you a little?
