A T-adapter is supplied with the Celestron Regal M2 65, but not a T-ring. Can someone explain the difference to me? I know what I need the T-adapter for, connecting a DSLR/mirrorless camera. Why do I need the T-ring? Is that the brand-specific connection to the camera? When searching for T-adapters, brand-specific "T-rings" are usually shown.

Yes, according to my research this is correct. The T-ring is a camera-specific adapter that connects the bayonet of the corresponding camera to the thread of the T-adapter. To connect a DSLR or mirrorless camera to the Celestron Regal M2 65, both a T-adapter and a brand-specific T-ring are therefore required.
