In the early days of the German-Soviet War, the Marder II anti-tank gun was deployed against the Soviet tanks T34 and KV-2. However, they encountered an unexpectedly dangerous foe known as the KV-1. It was not only German tanks like the III and IV that struggled, but even the best anti-tank weapon, the 50mm anti-tank gun, was powerless. One thing became clear: under these circumstances, the 75mm anti-tank gun was developed with high expectations. Its performance was such that it could penetrate a 130mm armor plate from a distance of 1000 meters with an armor-piercing round. It was an excellent weapon capable of firing 14 shots per minute. The Marder II anti-tank gun was designed with this high performance in mind. It was an open weapon built on the chassis of a Panzer II, equipped with a 75mm gun in the upper fighting compartment.
