Tamiya Mercedes Benz 300SL

The Mercedes Benz 300 SL complements the Tamiya sports car series in 1:24 scale as a classic sports car. The original vehicle was initially produced as a prototype for the in-house racing team to participate in national races and championships. In 1954, a production model debuted at the International Automobile Exhibition in New York.

Despite its "street car status," the 300 SL was a sporty and elegant vehicle that became very popular in the United States. It features a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder engine—which is where the "300" in its name comes from—an extremely lightweight body (SL stands for "Sport Leicht" or "Light Sport"), and the distinctive gullwing doors. By the end of production in May 1957, 1,400 units had been produced.
