In 1929, the Krupp company began developing a lightweight, three-axle truck that was urgently needed by the Reichswehr. There were various specifications that had to be met by Krupp. The primary goal was to standardize the vehicles and ensure a certain level of off-road capability. For the Reichswehr, the vehicle was a valuable addition to the fleet and was very popular among the troops. There were also some technical changes, such as the 4-cylinder boxer engine, which was also used in the Panzerkampfwagen 1; the logistical advantages of this are clear.
