The DX513 increases the storage capacity of the Synology DiskStation while in operation by adding two additional hard drives. The RAID volume on the Synology DiskStation can be expanded directly without the need to reformat the existing drives. This ensures that the Synology DiskStation continues to operate even during the storage expansion. The Synology DX513 can be used as a standalone local backup solution for the Synology DiskStation. When created as a separate volume, the Synology DX513 provides an excellent backup solution for the local drives in the event of a system failure. The Synology DX513 is connected to the Synology DiskStation via an extension cable with specially designed connectors on both ends. This ensures a reliable connection and maximum throughput. The 3.0 GB/s connection speed allows the drives on the connected Synology DX513 to operate as if they were internal drives of the Synology DiskStation. The hard drive's sleep mode can be manually set, allowing it to automatically activate after the system has been inactive for a specified period. This helps save energy and extends the lifespan of the hard drive.
