Special Hobby Fairey Barracuda Mk.II Pacific Fleet

The Barracuda kit is produced using three metal molds. The sprue frames are made of gray plastic and are complemented by a frame with clear parts. The Barracuda could be armed either with a torpedo or a 1600-pound bomb on a central mounting under the fuselage. Additionally, the model includes wing pylons for extra external loads. The kit offers four camouflage schemes of Barracudas that were used in battles against the Japanese, with several marking variants used in the region. Three of the depicted aircraft served aboard aircraft carriers, while the fourth operated from a land base in Ceylon. Particularly interesting is the aircraft flown by Sub-Lieutenant Robert McCandless (author of the book "Barracuda from the Cockpit"). His plane received a field modification where the ASV radar was removed to improve performance, and the observer's curved side windows were replaced with flat panes. Furthermore, the color scheme also featured some non-standard characteristics.
