Odette refuses, and he curses her to become a swan; only at midnight is she human again. The charming Prince Siegfried accidentally sees her as a woman, falls in love, and promises to marry her at a midnight ball. The false Rothbart pushes his daughter Odille forward, and Prince Siegfried nearly marries her but realizes his mistake just in time. He runs to his swan to break the curse, but the swan dies in his arms, and Siegfried drowns in tears.
