Product details
The Spitfire is arguably the most legendary aircraft of World War II. It was produced in countless variants continuously until well after the end of the war, with over 22,500 units built. The 12-cylinder Merlin engine developed for the Spitfire was so outstanding, initially producing 1,175 horsepower, that it was manufactured under license in the USA. By the start of World War II, the RAF had already introduced the Spitfire Mk.I into its fighter squadrons, where it demonstrated its capabilities during the Battle of Britain. In August 1940, the first Spitfire Mk.II rolled out of the factories in Castle-Bromwich. It was now equipped with a standard 3-blade propeller and received additional armor for the pilot. A total of 990 Mk.II aircraft were built. In addition to its role as an interceptor, the Spitfire also served as a fighter-bomber and photo-reconnaissance aircraft. New kit form. Structured surfaces with finely engraved panel lines. Detailed Mk.IIa wings with MG openings. Detailed cockpit with instrument panel. Separate cockpit bulkheads. Detailed seat suspension. Detailed foot pedal control system. Separate entry door. Detailed radiator. Movable propeller. Detailed exhaust system. Detailed landing gear. Split canopy glazing.
