Baron Manfred von Richthofen and his red Fokker triplane made history during World War I. The Dr. 1 was the most maneuverable of all deployed aircraft and achieved high climb rates. The Dr. 1s delivered to the troops in June 1917 were withdrawn from the front by the end of 1917, but Richthofen continued to fly it until April 1918.
