In 1948 the 2CV was presented to the public for the first time. Citroën offered with the puristic, inexpensive small car, which was easy to maintain and simple to operate, a robust mass vehicle for the people, which had an extremely good suspension according to the thinly developed road network. From 1981, when the 2 CV had long since become a cult object, a two-tone version appeared in series, the burgundy-black 2 CV 6 Charleston, which was followed from September 1982 by a yellow-black version, both equipped with air-cooled 0.6-litre two-cylinder boxer engine and 29 hp output.
