WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra
2 x 2 TB, WD Red
Excellent compromise for a home NAS. Not too expensive, but does everything you could possibly need. Personal cloud limited only by the capacity of the drive. WD Red drives are very good

Have bought 2 devices within ca.4 years, life span is only ca. 2 years. Will switch to another product.

I bought the product based on many good reviews and recommendations on Mac websites. After practical experience I am disappointed with the MyCloud OS and the many problems under MacOS.
Changing the device name led to problems with admin interface (apparently known problem in WD forum). Only after several reboots did the admin interface work correctly again.
Creating users and shares does not correspond to the instructions, not even to the latest online version. Access rights can only be distributed for entire shares, not for folder structures within them, i.e. tiered access rights require several shares mounted as individual drives. Group rights do not work as expected (problem known in the WD forum).
Then transfer of two backup folders from another drive (134 GB, 349k files and 61 GB, 8.8k files). Despite continuous gigabit connection about 1 day, which is slow compared to my other network disks. Also "get info" for such folders takes much longer than for other drives.
Later I wanted to delete one of these folders and copy it again. Deletion did not work from the Mac Finder: aborted with error message "Folder xy is in use" (known problem in the WD forum). Deleting via the web interface (WD forum recommendation) requires that you first activate cloud sharing (which I didn't really want for backup folders). Folder not visible in the web interface at first, with a message that it was still being indexed (for what felt like an eternity); later it was possible to delete this way. Recopying did not work because of an incomprehensible error message "item xy already exists". Attempt to do this via the web interface failed because not all folders are displayed there (this time without a message about indexing). I am deeply frustrated that I am spending hours on an 0815 task because of immature / faulty device software. Rebooting seems to help each time, but that shouldn't really be necessary.

In and of itself, certainly a good device: if it works at all.
Setting it up is supposed to be very easy (according to WD). I've never had so many problems with a device. Even a friend, an IT technician, had to call WD support until the thing finally worked. It now saves the data, but I still can't access the saved data. No description, outdated WD information on the web. Conclusion: total crap from WD!
Unfortunately, it was also not clear in the Galaxus shop whether 2 memory cassettes were already included in the price. They are. I therefore returned the 2 additional ones.

Since the last OS 5 update, nothing works anymore. You are not a computer scientist? You have no patience? Don't buy this device, you'll lose your nerves.
There is a saving option that doesn't work, the disk spins all day with a blower noise worse than my janitor when he cleans the dead leaves.
Sharing documents, bullshit since this last update. See attachment.
WD's help, a utopia, you have to connect, you fill a form, once done you send it and they answer you that the page does not exist.
In short, useless, do not waste your money.

It's an absolute disaster. I only read reviews afterwards. Digitec itself says that the thing is unsafe. Why are they selling it? That's just bullshit.

Complete junk. It is seldom possible to add a drive so awkwardly. Only if you do it via the WD programme with an internet connection and via the WDCloud, then it probably works. But without an internet connection, nothing works. I wouldn't buy it again. 2 stars because it offers a lot of storage space at a low price...

I was sceptical about the performance as I was coming from WDMyCloud 3Tb (non-raid). It's night and day. The EX2 Ultra is usable as a network drive, even in WiFi. Good performance, and data security with RAID-1. Ideal for the home. I recommend it without any problems.

The set-up is simple and menu-guided, no instructions in book form, only a sheet with 3 positions. The power consumption is quite high compared to other devices, but this can be changed by a time control for a sleep mode, e.g. at night, unfortunately this can only be parameterised at full hours and only by the hour. The three-star rating for functionality is not due to the very good programme management and the app (which, in contrast to the PlayStore ratings, works perfectly) but because the password is limited to 16 characters - Dear WD engineers, I might as well make my data available to the whole world, a password limitation of 16 characters is no longer appropriate! Please change it immediately and install it with the next firmware update!

I already have the same 2x2TB NAS and I'm happy with it. So this new NAS meets my expectations.
Installation is extremely easy and it works without any problems.
Only the web interface is not very user friendly.
Very good value for money.

Product delivered very quickly. Initial setup was relatively easy and straightforward. However, fine-tuning, creating shares, etc was not at all very straight forward. Their user guide on the web site of WD is based on an old model, menu layout not at all similar to what is currently available in their Windows App or their Android App. Multiple re-reads of document required, then an approximation was done. I still cannot find how to copy my Android photos to be backed to WD My Cloud EX2.. Seems to work one time out of 2 and no way of monitoring the backup

We replaced the My Cloud Mirror with the EX2 Ultra. And also looked at the Synology during the evaluation and clearly decided in favour of WD. One small drawback is that you can't copy from all PCs within the WD ... but this has more to do with the Microsoft authorisations. And is certainly solvable.
In short: the device is highly recommended. (I'm a graduate engineer and very IT-savvy)

No firmware update has helped, the cloud has been running for months now and the problem still persists. I have now unplugged it and only plug it in when I need the data, but that's not really the point.

Bought the device in October 2020. Easy to install and use. You can access all your data, photos, films, etc. from anywhere in the world, as long as there is internet (of course). The device runs absolutely reliably. Depending on the internet connection, it may take a little longer to connect, which cannot necessarily be attributed to the device. As soon as the connection is established, you can quickly switch back and forth between your data, photos, etc. and edit them. I bought 12 TB and mirrored it, so I have 6 TB available at all times, which is completely sufficient for me for the next 10 years :-). I would buy it again at any time.

I am directed to purchase this product because the older version of the product that I have owned for years is no longer in the manufacturer's support plan. Once purchased, although several options are offered to migrate my data from the old device to the new device, none of them worked. I asked for help from customer service, and was simply instructed to painstakingly copy my data over the laptop. For more than a week it has been copying -- I am not allowed to take my laptop with me. The copying is error-prone to boot.
I think I could overcome this problem by using ssh, but was confronted with the threat that this 'hack' would destroy my warranty. These people are more difficult than the IRS.

Easy installation (Raid 1 prepared). Unfortunately, the ventilation is VERY loud. Impossible to have in the living room. Respectively: must always be put into standby mode. How then but "wake up" without reboot I have not figured out. Other WD products have been more convincing.

Weird network traffic during my backups.
I would say that it is necessary to block the traffic with the firewall.
Connect to a network without internet or install an opensource system (ex: Ubuntu) to avoid data leakage.

Without German Bendienungsanleitung it is not so easy for users without English knowledge to create user shares. At least the user guidance in the browser is in German.

The hardware is very good and powerful and easy to use.
The management of data on internal disks or USB disks is very fast via the Windows 10 file explorer.
It is a pity that the Cloud application "MyCloudEX2Ultra" has user account problems and that the display on a smartphone does not allow the use of the buttons at the bottom of the screen (transferring a picture to someone is not possible).(transferring a picture to someone is not possible because of the icon being too low) - Samsung A50
It's also a pity that the same application deals with indexing, without giving any information about the device or the % done.
Improvements to be expected.
