Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra
Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra
Several of my colleagues asked me why I didn't buy a Dream Machine... Well, because I don't need one :-)
I have a FTTH 1GBit connection here and according to the statistics (available thanks to the really excellent Unifi software) my internet traffic is usually under 50MBit. When the kids load their game updates, it can sometimes be 500 MBit. And even the speed test gives me over 900 MBit. I only use network components from Unifi (no other topics) and apart from a few VLANs, SSIDs and WireGuard, I'm a fairly frugal user. So why should I spend CHF 400 to 500 when I can get everything I need for just over CHF 110?
I have replaced my MikroTik gateway (which has taught me a lot and brought me many hours of joy and frustration :-)). I can recommend MikroTik to anyone who wants to learn how networks work and who wants to squeeze every last feature out of their network; everyone else should have more than enough options with a Cloud Gateway Ultra - and there's still some fun to be had :-)

Compared to the Dream Machine, this gateway has no fan. If the device is in the office, this makes a difference.
Otherwise, the gateway offers everything a home network could wish for, including intrusion prevention, AdBlock, family filter, VPN and much more. The simple interface is also nice - including a display of where the most traffic is currently running on the network (gimmick, but still cool).
If you still have Unifi AP for the WIFI, this can of course also be managed via it. It's a real shame that the ports don't offer PoE, which would allow the APs to be connected with 2.5GbE. But for the price, the gateway is very good value and definitely worth the money.

Had a lot of traffic on the network, so that some end devices were practically unable to use the Internet. Since I installed unifi, everything worked again.

Reliable, powerful gateway is perfectly adequate for most home networks.

Was waiting for something affordable but with the power of the Unifi Controller for my connected home. Works and performs effectively, even with security features on.
