    Very good 100Mbits/s router

This is a very good 100Mbits/s router that has lot of functionalities.

    You can setup several configurations.
One mode is to have priority on the 3G/4G USB Modem, and then WAN in case of failure. Select « 3G/4G router mode
with Ewan backup » for that.

Another mode is to have priority on the WAN, and then backup to 3G/4G modem in case of failure only. Select « Wireless router mode with 3G/4G backup » for that. You do not need to activate the wireless for that, you can turn it off if needed. When the WAN is used, the 3G/4G USB modem can be connected to the USB port and it will not be used, remaining in low power mode. For Waves skepticals, in this mode the 3G/4G USB modem generates strictly no waves. Measured with an electrosmog meter, the level of waves is exactly the same as the noise, less than 1 V/m. Only when the WAN is disconnected or fails then the 3G/4G USB modem turns on an generates waves. After WAN comes back online, the 3G/4G USB modem stops emitting waves after about 5 minutes and goes back in standby mode so there is no need to remove the USB modem stick.

The switch time from 3G/4G to WAN is about 30 seconds back and forth when it needs to switch.

Compatible 3G/4G USB modems are for the V5 hardware version only of the router, in Switzerland:
    Huawei E8278 : Compatible
Huawei E3372h-320 : Compatible but only after FW update to 1.5.0 0.9.1 minimum (very easy to do in one click from : Advanced / System tools / Firware upgrade / Check for upgrades).

The LAN default address is 192.168.1.1. However if it detects that another network (WAN for example or 3G/4G modem) is present on 192.168.1.1 address, then it falls back to 192.168.0.1 and saves this into the router. So your LAN IP address will either be 192.168.1.100 or 192.168.0.100 where the DHCP starts, depending on your network, defined automatically. It will reboot if it detects such a change to do. It is transparent however.

The WAN address is taken by DHCP on the network it can find (configurable).

Do not use in combination with Huawei USB Stick E3372h-153.

Attention: The router TP-Link TL-MR3420 V3 unfortunately does not work with the Huawei USB stick E3372h-153. And since there is no OpenWrt firmware available for the TL-MR3420 V3 yet, I unfortunately could not try this variant yet.
The router itself makes a very good impression and the workmanship at this price is unbeatable.

    Contra

    • Attention: Is not compatible with the Huawei USB stick E3372h-153!
