TP-Link Deco X50 (3-pack)
TP-Link Deco X50 (3-pack)
The setup is simple. Connect a Deco according to the instructions, the remaining devices are recognised directly by the power supply and integrated into the mesh. The ideal location for the slaves must be found out during operation. After 1-2 optimisations, you have your mesh network.
The 3 LAN connections/Deco and Wifi6 as well as the simple design were the main reasons why I chose this product. There are devices with Wifi 6E and Tri-Band - but the prices are much higher and the devices less attractive. Deco 50 has had the best price/performance ratio and size for me,. The LAN ports effectively get up to 950Mbps on a 1GB line - wouldn't have expected that. I have replaced all my LAN hubs with the Deco's. At the beginning, the Wifi network interrupted from time to time (recognisable by the LED). After a few days, the mesh network seems to have "optimised" itself somehow and is running stably.
You can make advanced settings via the Deco app. These are, for example, address reservations or WPS activation per Deco device, Wifi settings (2.4/5Ghz) etc, blocking list, fast roaming, beamforming (bundling the Wifi signal of the connected devices for a stronger connection), prioritisation of the devices, assignment of the devices to rooms etc. The operating status is indicated by discreet LEDs. You can switch them off or deactivate them in "night mode" only at night and leave them on during the day - very nice!
HomeShield scans the network for better performance and security in the basic version. Upgrading to the Pro version costs an additional 59.-/year (1 month trial/subscription included). This is supposed to give you real-time IoT protection, parental controls, and network protection. I haven't bought the Pro version yet because I don't really need to use it. Most providers already offer basic protection for the connection.
Conclusion: So far I can only recommend Deco 50 - hope it stays that way :)

As a tip: less is more! It's better to order one less at the start. If too many are installed, as in my case (3), they can interfere with each other's signals. Now with 2 pcs. perfect over two floors. Kiss on the nut.
I would actually be satisfied, see above. The 3 Deco boxes are evenly distributed on the 3rd floor and the box on the ground floor is connected to a fibre optic router from yallo (the other 2 boxes are then connected via WLAN). But there is a big problem: regularly (practically every day) all three Deco boxes suddenly switch to red and the Internet is lost. This happens even though the yallo router is still running and lights up green. But of course it doesn't help, the WLAN is gone. Only a restart or disconnection from the power supply solves the problem, after which everything lights up green again. It's getting desperate.
If anyone has had similar experiences or has any other tips, I would be very grateful!

Basically, our Wi-Fi now works evenly throughout the flat, but it was a time-consuming process until we got to this point. We may have been clumsy, or the problems may have been caused by the switch from cable to fibre optic internet, but I wouldn't call it "plug and play". It is very annoying that our printers can no longer be controlled via WLAN. I now regret the purchase, as it felt like we had invested endless amounts of time to get everything up and running.
Note: I am neither an IT professional nor a beginner - I think with my knowledge it should actually be possible to get a well-made device up and running in 30 minutes. That is certainly not the case here.

After many attempts with other suppliers, a system that is installed quickly and successfully.
I installed the set of 3 with an Ethernet backhaul - this means the three stations communicate via the Ethernet cable and don't use the wireless channels. Super robust thing.
Strong recommendation to buy!
I paid 50.- more at the time, but it was worth every franc.

I have a simple setup: one x50 upstairs, one downstairs, both wired to the home network. The primary x50 works well. But the second one keeps losing the connection. Sometimes everything shows green in the app, but it flashes red. Even when it works, iPhones connect to the one further away and then have an unstable connection. This "intelligent mesh" does not seem to be fully developed. If the x50 loses the connection once, you have to restart it manually. I have the impression that connecting the devices via LAN cable is useless and not implemented properly.

I had no trouble setting it up, the app guides you through setting up the deco.
However, the locations of the deco must be good, after a few days of trying around, unfortunately the last of the three deco still has a performance loss of almost 40%, which is just enough to watch videos without jerking.

Unpack, connect the first device to the router, restart the router, place the next device somewhere etc. and "poof" everything is configured, which I think is really great!

Did not provide enough power in our house over two floors and a larger area - we successfully switched to Powerline

Highly unstable connection in the mesh network, the signal drops out all the time when you move between the satellites with your device.

I've had it for 1 week and am completely satisfied.
Wifi is now equally strong in every room.

It would be better if the classic way of configuration had been built in with complete web configuration.
The app is ok, but it's yet another app that only needs to be installed once for configuration...
I don't understand why everything always has to be done in Apss...

I bought the most expensive version because it was advertised as having a VPN client. Unfortunately the VPN client doesn't work at all, the support tried to help me and send me a new FW, but the Deco X50 still can't connect to any VPN server. I have even tried several VPN servers (where other devices and routers can connect, only the X50 does not want to connect directly and remains on connect....).
The fact that the devices all need to see the main device to connect is bad and defeats the purpose, in a larger flat where the Deco is bought precisely because of the weak signal, it makes little sense that there is no "daisy chain" functionality.
Setup was a bit odd, the modes on sale don't make much sense, but in the end it worked.
The wifi signal itself is quite strong, the AI mesh node switching is expandable, many connection errors happen when switching between nodes, several times you are then connected to a node where you have almost no internet and the other node dutifully sits next to you waiting for you to connect to it.... Switching Wifi off and on takes care of this, but it shouldn't be necessary.

What use is a good Wi-Fi network in my home if my devices are constantly disconnected from the home network?
Each device then has to be reconnected and the network key re-entered.
The mesh often has to be de-energised first to re-establish the connection to the devices.
Printing something quickly is not possible because the printer is no longer in the network.
Quickly streaming music via the system is not possible because the player has to be reconnected.
Catastrophic!
