The reason for only 3 stars is the loud drive noise. It creaks as if someone is walking across a wooden ceiling above you. It's annoying when you want to watch a film very quietly.
In combination with my new Samsung TV, I would have imagined it to be easier as far as the remote control is concerned. The whole thing does not yet merge into one system (but that was just an expectation of mine).
I am completely satisfied with the device. I bought it to supply an older HD TV, which cannot decode cablecom digitv, with cabelcom basic digital TV. It replaces the power-hungry mediabox from cablecom. The TV guide is almost identical to a Samsung TV and is much better than the Cabelcom box.
The loading time for Blurays is short, DVD upscaling is very good.
I can recommend it to anyone who wants to make an older TV cablecom digitv-compatible.
works great with Cablecom, ordered the digicard and now have the premium package too. Make sure you enter all options for the CI interface in the section Cannel->Cable Search Option. The remote not too sensitive and the UI a bit cheap. Otherwise - a great device, recommended!
As can be seen from the product description, the device basically covers three main functional areas.
- A multifunctional player that can play CDs, DVDs and BluRays (including 3D). Actually (more on this later), this unit can also play a wide variety of self-burned media. Picture and sound are flawless for this price range.
- The DVB-C receiver (new from Cabelcom without smart card) works well so far. The order of up to 1000 channels can be determined and up to 4 "favourite groups" can be formed. And as has been the case for 30 years with almost all manufacturers, the sorting of the channels could be simpler...
- The third functional area is the multimedia functions. Connected to the network (WLAN only with Samsung's own WLAN adapter!), you can stream various audio and video formats, install additional programmes from a manageable range of apps (e.g. NZZ News, games, etc.), watch films from a library (for a fee) and use Samsung's own Allshare functions. You could also play back photos. But because of the poor drive and impossibly slow display, this function is effectively unusable. Surfing the internet would also be possible, but you need a lot of patience, as with all other functions... All in all, a few nice features, but because of the very poor performance, they will probably not be used after the first few uses. Unless you have nerves of steel and a lot of time.
The total weak point, however, seems to be the cheap drive. On the one hand, it can be heard well depending on the media inserted. On the other hand, it can hardly cope with self-burned media and sometimes crashes completely. The unit then has to be disconnected from the mains. My unit has already been repaired twice. Just about everything possible has been replaced. The shortcomings and weaknesses have remained.
Conclusion: ...
Top device. Many functions, Strambox, HDTV, recorder, internet, etc.
I am very positively surprised, thank you Cablecom!
This makes watching television even more fun.
