No, the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean 9000 Series case does not have a charging function.

is there a usb charging station (not battery included?) If so, can I also use it to charge older Philips sonicare brushes e.g. 3100, 5100? or are they not compatible with each other? Many thanks for any answers :-)

It is not charging-compatible with my old case. The shape of the handpiece is also slightly different, so it doesn't quite fit in. I bought this case separately and it works with it: https://www.philips.de/c-p/CP0557_01/diamondclean-smart-diamondclean-reiseladeetuis Also available in white.

What is the difference to the "normal" version (not special edition) apart from the colour?

The difference lies in the case: the Special Edition does not charge the sonic toothbrush, whereas the "normal edition" does. This means that the invaluable advantage of the travel case is lost with the Special Edition. This is not specifically mentioned anywhere. It sucks that we as consumers are inundated with so many product variants and it's SO hard to keep track of everything.
