yes you need at least 7.1 which this receiver has and uses the surround back outputs as treble outputs to turn the system into 5.1.2 ... which implies a reflect pair. PS: I would recommend speakers above the front just below the ceiling and angled at head height. Direct always sounds better than reflections...I even hung my Teufel further out than Dolby allows for Atmos which gives me a wider front. The gain over my previous 7.1 setup is there, even if it is more through the Neural X upmixer as the native ATMOS/DTS X mixes are rather sobering. Whether 4 height channels are worth it at the much higher price of 9.1 receivers is something everyone has to decide for themselves.... I am quite satisfied with the TX NR 686.
The warranty can also be extended by the customer service or in the shop directly before the warranty expires.
I have the same configuration 4k feed player (Swisscom TV), a 4K TV on the Main and a FullHD beamer on the SUB output. The output resolution (4K, FullHD...) cannot be set directly on the device and the receiver does not do any picture scaling. However, this is not absolutely necessary: On the receiver, you can choose between the output modes MAIN, SUB and MAIN+SUB (combined). The HDMI handshake to define the resolution, among other things, is looped through (more or less transparently) by the receiver (MAIN or SUB mode). In combined (MAIN+SUB) mode, the highest possible resolution is selected that is supported by both display devices at MAIN and SUB (in this case Full HD). The picture is also output mirrored on both units. However, if one device (e.g. beamer) is switched off (standby) at the SUB output, the receiver recognises this and allows 4k again (TV at MAIN). Strangely, this only works when the projector is in standby. If the projector is completely disconnected from the power supply (but connected to the SUB output via HDMI), only FullHD is output on the TV via the MAIN... Long story short: It should work. Probably automatically (MAIN+SUB mode) or otherwise by manual switching (MAIN or SUB). Unfortunately, switching the output mode is only possible via the (Quick) menu, which is a bit awkward.
I don't have any Sonos hardware to try out, but I can confirm that the menu item is available on my device. I have installed the latest firmware.
Hello I don't think this is really a problem for your speakers, as the amp provides a dynamic power of 240 W (3 Ω, front) 210 W (4 Ω, front) 120 W (8 Ω, front) which is not a continuous power applied to the speakers, as the documentation specifies this as 165 W/channel (6 Ω, 1 kHz).This is not a continuous power applied to the speakers, as the maximum power consumed by the amplifier is 570 watts, and in the documentation it is specified as 165 W/channel (6 Ω, 1 kHz, 1 % THD, 1 channel in use, IEC). According to the technical documentation of the JM Lab Sib set these are columns with an impedance of 8 Ω so at max the amp could deliver 120 watts per channel. Hopefully I can help you
Of course, only 5.1 is possible. Simply connect the speakers for 5.1 (front, centre, surround) and the subwoofer. https://static.digitecgalaxus.ch/Files/1/2/3/9/1/0/3/1/TX-NR686%20B%20Rear.jpg?fit=inside%7C2208:1304&output-format=progressive-jpeg

In case of doubt, this is a DOA (defect on arrival). You are still within the 7-day period. Open a DOA case in your customer account for the order in question, return the device and you should normally receive a new one straight away. For the exact procedure, you can also contact Digitec customer service, which will certainly help you quickly and competently.
Good day I've just plugged in a 500GB SSD hard drive filled to the brim with music, it's all arranged by style and subfolders by artist etc. I can't believe it's all on the app. Unbelievably, the whole arrangement is on the app. Everything is labelled like on the PC, it's amazing! It runs on the NET channel, USB connection is on the back. I am totally thrilled! Greetings Patrick
Hello I can't help much, I also have problems with cabling and setup, everything doesn't run as I would like it to, I have TV Samsung, DVD Philips, Satelitreciver Dreambox, switching between devices doesn't run cleanly.
The devices on the Onkyo only go through when the Onkyo is running. Otherwise I have no picture on the TV with the TX-NR686.
The NR585 is a US model and unfortunately not available in Europe.
Yes, that works. I also use it that way.
Unfortunately, we have no experience with this setup. However, the question has been forwarded to our community so that someone who knows it better can answer it.
For my part, I did an update this morning. The first one failed at 86%. On the second attempt, the update ran without a problem. Maybe downlodging the update from the Onkyo website to a USB stick. Isenpat.
