The radios work independently of the mobile phone network. Radio transmission is via a frequency of 446 MHz directly from device to device (without transmission masts). All comparable devices (also from other manufacturers) with the PMR446 standard can receive the radio within range - as long as the devices have the exact same channel set. With the 8 channels and 121 subchannels each, this is very unlikely. Range depending on the environment (open area, building, forest) up to 10km between the two devices.

Any number of units can be operated on the same channel (unit has 8 channels and 121 codes). As long as the same channel/code is selected on all units, they can communicate with each other (as long as they are within range). Devices from other manufacturers (must be PMR446 devices) can also communicate with these devices if the same settings (channel/code) are used (PMR466 is a uniform radio standard).

The problem with this device is not the number of floors but rather the type of use. For example, if you want to call your children from the 15th floor while they are playing outside, there is no problem. But if you want to communicate between floors I don't think it will work...
