Product details
The Mercedes-Benz W196 R was designed by Rudolf Uhlenhaut and Fritz Nallinger. Due to its streamlined shape, it was capable of achieving high speeds. The W196 R was built fourteen times, including the prototype. Starting from the European Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, a version with exposed wheels, also known as Monoposto, was introduced. On a technical level, the vehicle was constructed with the highest quality of its time and featured, for example, a tubular frame, a torsion bar suspension, a double-joint swinging axle, and turbo-cooled duplex drum brakes. The 290 hp vehicles were driven by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss. In the twelve Grand Prix races, the two managed to secure nine victories.
