Ethernet over VDSL2 Media Converters are innovative solutions from LevelOne that extend the range of LAN networks. These media converters transmit Ethernet data packets over long distances by utilizing VDSL2 protocols for data transmission. As a result, users can utilize standard telephone cables (RJ-11) to cover distances of up to 300 meters with a maximum data transfer rate of 100/60 Mbps. These media converters achieve three times the range of regular Cat.5 Ethernet cabling. No additional network components are required; all data transmission is accomplished using cost-effective and easy-to-use RJ-11 telephone cables.

Can a Media Converter function as a PSE?

The 802.3af Power over Ethernet standard specifies that PSE devices (Power Sending Equipment) can transmit power over Cat.5 cables to compatible PD devices (Powered Device). The VDS-0120 serves as both an Ethernet to VDSL media converter and a PSE. In addition to data transmission over RJ-11 cables, power and data can be transmitted through the local RJ-45 port. This functionality provides high flexibility for system installers.
